In a search for more meaningful work, Yamile had already made a decision to change careers, from advertising to childcare, when she was diagnosed with cancer. Despite this devastating setback, Yamile continued taking childcare courses during her chemotherapy treatment and finally opened her home-based daycare center earlier this year. She believes that the goal of opening her own business gave her strength and helped her overcome her sickness. She is now caring for three toddlers, and her thoughtful teaching curriculum includes music, Spanish, and lots of love.
With a $5,000 loan, Yamile can put in grass for her outdoor play area, make her backyard safer for children, and convert her garage into a play and nap area to accommodate more children.
