Flor María Rojas González is a 31-year-old woman who lives with her husband and their 4 daughters: Helen, Yerlin, Angie and Grettel. They live in a rural community in Costa Rica called Abanico. It is located in San Isidro de Peñas Blancas, San Ramón, Alajuela Province. It is known as a quiet community dedicated to productive activities such as agriculture, livestock and tourism.

Mrs. Flor is a member of the ecological group Mujeres el Abanico. She works sowing Lime Flower, a medicinal plant. She says a company called Manzaté buys her crops as well as those of the other group members. It’s a national company specialized in producing different herbal teas.

Mrs. Flor has worked in lime flower production for more than 10 years. It has been very profitable for her and her family. She says she has worked very hard and put a lot of effort into making the project successful.

Mrs. Flor says the market demand for this product is very high which is why she would like to increase her lime flower tree plantation and make the drying area larger. Therefore she needs a loan of ¢600.000 (six hundred thousand CRC) to help with preparing the soil and purchasing seeds and fertilizers, among other supplies which are necessary to guarantee the optimal sowing of the lime flower. She also hopes to purchase: wood, plastic, nails, netting, etc. All these materials are necessary to increase the drying area.

Mrs. Flor is part of the Abanico Community Credit Company. It is one of 100 member organizations of EDESA in Costa Rica. She has received a micro loan since she is a member. This has allowed her to develop as a micro businesswoman and feel better about herself.
