This Badenya group is made up mostly of married women living in polygamous families with an average age of 44 and on average, 2 children. They all live in the Darsalam neighborhood of the town of Ségou (4the administrative region of the Republic of Mali). They met through ties of neighborhood, friendship, marriage and through belonging to the same traditional association.

They learned about Soro Yiriwaso from a solidarity-loan client who has the same sort of business they do in the marketplace of Médine. They sell various items such as embroidered clothing, "wax-brand pagnes" (high quality lengths of brightly printed African cloth), incense, shoes, etc.

In the intention of increasing their working capital, they got organized to join our loan program. They are on their 5th solidarity loan, after having correctly reimbursed the preceding loans. This new loan will be used to buy 4 bolts of high-quality "bazin" (a sort of damask) which will be dyed before being sold, 150 pairs of shoes, 10 dozen perfumes and raw materials for making incense (5kg of "magnonkissèni" and 5kg of "n’guéni"--seeds of wild exotic plants--and a case of perfumes). To have good quality incense you soak the "magnonkissèni" or the "n’guéni" in eau de Cologne for a month or more before using other sorts of perfumes to embellish it. They buy all the raw materials in Ségou in the big open-air market and sell their wares for cash and retail or for credit out of their homes and walking through the neighborhoods and the big marketplace, to a clientele composed of men and women.

They expect to make a monthly average profit of 39,000 F CFA which will be used to help their husbands support their families. Their ambition is to become big-time suppliers of the various items they sell.

PREMIER ET DERNIER FEED BACK

Entrepreneur: Badenya Group
Location: Segou, Mali
