Yuh Geraldine

Geraldine is married and has six children. She makes a living selling pigs and goats. With this loan she plans to buy two goats for about $30 each and two piglets for about $40 each, along with two bags of feed. She also plans to do small repairs to her home.

This is Geraldine’s second loan from GHAPE in the last year. She has purchased goats before, and has experience in using a loan for this purpose. She believes she will succeed because she has already built a pig and a goat house, and knows that there is enough land for the goats to feed on.

Geraldine's living situation does not work well for her. Her husband has married a second wife and she is not pleased with his decision. On top of that, she has lost her parents in the last two years. With this loan, she hopes to continue feeding her family and pay for her children’s school fees.

The Grounded and Holistic Approach to People's Empowerment (GHAPE) is a non-profit NGO based in Bamenda, Cameroon. GHAPE works towards the empowerment of the poor and poverty alleviation through a highly multi-faceted approach. Clients are also required to contribute a small amount into a personal savings account; most clients save much more than the minimum requirement.
