The four members of the group Badeya are married women who average 32 years of age and 2 children each. They live in traditional extended families in the N’kola district of the sub-prefecture of Fakola (region of Sikasso, Republic of Mali). The women know one another through ties of kinship and community. Their businesses have included the buying and selling of various goods, food catering, etc. for five years. The women have a very good reputation and are known by everyone in their fields of business.

Following the growth in the number of their customers, the group members decided to join the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso and are now on their third solidarity loan. All the preceding loans have been correctly repaid. With this loan, they intend to buy 300 kg of rice, some tubers (100 kg of potatoes, 50 kg of yams, 50 kg of sweet potatoes), 100 kg of smoked or dried fish, 50 packets of Maggi cubes, and 50 kg of salt. Supplies are procured at the Fakola marketplace from fair vendors. Sales are made to fair vendors, travelers, housewives, and retailers of the surrounding villages.

The group members each hope to realize a profit of 35,000 francs CFA per month that will be used to repay the loan, and the rest will augment their working capital. Their ambition is to diversify their commerce by embracing other income-generating work, such as selling cosmetics.
