Nusrat sultana baji has lived in Borewala in Pakistan, a city famous for its shrines, for the past fourteen years. She is uneducated because her father could not afford to pay for her education. Nusrat sultana baji is skilled in making embroidered dresses. She earns an income by making dresses for her neighbors. Her husband has an animal-selling business. His business grows busier during the Muslim festival of Eid-ul-Azha because people purchase animals to slaughter. At other times he sells animals to butchers.

Nusrat sultana baji is applying for a loan to buy animals (goats) to increase the profit of her husband’s animal-selling business. She is the leader of a group comprising two other women from her locality. Nagina parveen baji and Mumtaz baji each want a loan to buy seasonal fruits for their fruit-selling businesses.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
