The group is named "El vinero" and they have stands set up in the market. They are such good companions that they have their stands together in the market in Masaya.

The three members are neighbours and they sometimes get together to buy some products so that they will get better prices.

Juana Tercero sells perishables in the market of Masaya. She sells fruits, having purchased them wholesale. She sells during the days. She has three children who are all going to school and her husband is a salesman in the same market where he carries a variety of products, contributing to the household expenses.

Johana Cruz sells perishables in the market, such as tomatoes, chayotes, beets, lettuce, etc. Her husband helps her with the household expenses and he works as a taxi driver. She looks after her little boy while she runs the business. She has three young children that help her with the stand but they also go to class. Her work schedule starts in the very early mornings and to the late afternoons.

Maria de los Reyes is the coodinator of the group. She was elected because she is very responsible with her payments. She also sells perishables, like her two other colleagues. She has two small children who she supports. They go to class in the nearest neighbourhood school. Her husband helps out with the household expenses. She dreams of making improvements to her home especially because in the winter the house floods. With the loans she has received she has purchased vegetables wholesale, those that are imported from the northern parts of the country. The products are of great demand and that has helped her increase her sales.

Important Information About This Loan
In mid 2008, a movement began in Nicaragua called “Movimiento No Pago” (a movement for non-payment of loans). This movement, supported mostly by farmers of the north of Nicaragua with ties to the left-wing party in Nicaragua, has been organizing protests and making it difficult for some branches of microfinance institutions to operate normally. This movement has been fed by the global the economic crisis, which has made it more difficult for Nicaraguans to pay back their loans. This group has submitted a law to the government to create a moratorium on debt repayment. If passed, the law could have a severe effect on the microfinance industry and banking sector in Nicaragua. Recent information indicates that the situation may be improving as the President of Nicaragua has spoken out against this law and would not support its passage in its current form. The network of microfinance institutions in Nicaragua (ASOMIF) has been negotiating with the government in support of an alternative proposal. Kiva, along with 25 other funders from 9 countries, has signed onto a letter to the Nicaraguan government urging a resolution to this situation without enacting a moratorium on debt repayment. The potential passage of the debt moratorium increases the risk of lending in Nicaragua.
