Mary Kumi

Mary Kumi is fifty-two years old. She is married and has four children, one son and three daughters. She says some are in senior high school while others are in a polytechnic. She lives with her children and husband in a family house in a town called Kofiase. Kofiase is a farming/trading community near Dormaa, the district capital, in the Brong Ahafo region. Her husband is a farmer.

Mary is a food vendor. She prepares and sells kenkey. Kenkey is prepared from corn dough. It is served hot with ground pepper and fried fish. She prepares the food in her house of residence and hawks to sell in her community. She procures bags of maize from the nearby communities. Mary also deals in all kinds of utensils. She has been in business for over ten years and wants a loan to procure bags of maize in bulk. She is hoping to expand her business and give her children the best education she can afford.
