This Kiva Fellow had the good fortune to interview Armando Javier Zeas Sánchez at ZEAS, his hammock store in Masaya, a city famous for its artisans and residents proud of their reputation as fierce fighters earned from many centuries of uprisings against the Spanish, the American mercenary and confederate William Walker (who appointed himself president of Nicaragua), the U.S. Marines and Somoza's National Guard.

Don Armando is paying back his loan with Kiva partner CEPRODEL. He and his wife, Rosa (pictured), have been making, selling and repairing cotton hammocks for more than 20 years. They have four employees and hope to export their hammocks in the future. They sell custom hammocks of all sizes and are happy to monogram them. They are parents of a 20-year-old daughter, a 10-year-old son and a five-year-old son.
