Adwoa Nyarkowaa

Adwoa Nyarkowaa is a 60 year old woman, married, and the mother of five children. All of them are independent except the last born who is currently in school.

Through hard work, Adwoa provides support for her kids education. She is a food vendor who has sold kenkey in her neighborhood for the past twenty years. Kenkey is prepared from milled maize grains, cooked and taken with hot pepper, gravy stew or any kind of soup and fried fish or meat. She has many customers since many Ghanaians enjoy kenkey as breakfast, lunch and supper.

With the loan, Adwoa wants to buy more raw materials like bags of maize, meat, fish, vegetables and firewood. As part of her business expansion, Adwoa has added cooked rice and stew to her product line. When asked, she said most of her customers request the rice so she saw it as an opportunity.

She hopes to raise more income to allow her child to enter university. She belongs to the community group called “Eye Adom” Trust Group. In this group, members guarantee for one another and provide assistance to one another in handling repayment of the loan.
