The five women in this group have been connected trough neighborly relations for a long time. They belong to a federation of all women in the city of Thiès. This group has been subdivided in groups of five to facilitate management. Groups are created based on affinity, by the women themselves. They run various money-making businesses, and help their husbands support their respective family. The group used to financed itself through an internal tontine (a traditional community revolving savings and loan group), but with the loan from Kiva's partner, IMCEC, it gains access to a larger funding in a shorter amount of time to finance its activities. Most women have stalls at the central market in Thiès, where they sell vegetables, fish, jewelry, fabrics, ...

Kiva Field Update - Message from Senegal

Entrepreneur: Femmes Commerçantes 12 Group
Location: Thies, Senegal

Hi Kiva lenders!

You are receiving this journal update to thank you for the Kiva loan you made to a client of IMCEC, a partner MFI in Senegal, West Africa.

IMCEC (also known as "UIMCEC") is working on putting in place an efficient, well-oiled system for sending journal updates. However, for the moment, they're a bit behind schedule! Please accept the video below in lieu of your regularly scheduled journal update. I hope that, through this video, you will feel a stronger connection to IMCEC and its clients. As you will see, there is lots of energy and life that goes into running an MFI, and IMCEC and its borrowers are grateful for the support of Kiva and lenders like you.

Enjoy the video, and thank you for your continued support of Kiva and IMCEC!

Best regards,

Abby Gray
