Hold Sorbeh Group

This is Esther Bangura, Zainab Bangura, Isatu Gbla, and Kadiatu Koroma. They are local entrepreneurs in Magburaka. They called their group Hold Sorbeh. This group has received several loans from SMT/Kiva. These loans have made massive contributions towards the well-being and development of these entrepreneurs. Having repaid their last loan successfully, they are now requesting a new loan of SLL 3,600,000 to further strengthen their businesses.
Esther Bangura (second from right) is the leader of this group. She was born in Magburaka, Tonkolili district, in northern Sierra Leone. She is age forty and married to a businessman. The two of them have four children. Two of her children are in primary school and two are in secondary school. Esther has been a businesswoman since childhood. She sells dried fish. She will invest the entire loan in her dried fish business. A basket full of dried fish usually costs SLL 500,000.





About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
