I've been running my small business for three and a half years, selling food on the city streets. With my profits I'm able to help my family afford medicine and educate my children.

New to micro loans!

Entrepreneur: Blanca Luz Montoya
Location: Tegucigalpa, Honduras

Blanca has a small business selling hot food. Her business is just outside one of Tegucigalpa’s hospitals. All along the sidewalk, there are stalls set up by vendors selling hot meals to hospital employees and visitors. Blanca’s specialty is fried chicken with plantains, beans, and salad, which she sells for just 30 lempiras ($1.50)!

She has had her business for six years. This is the first loan Blanca has ever taken. She decided to take out a loan because her lack of capital was slowing down her business. Before, she could only buy a limited amount of ingredients at a time. As a result, she would run out of meals, limiting her daily earnings. With her loan, Blanca is able to limit her shopping trips to once a week, and she can buy a larger quantity of food at a discount.

Blanca is still in the early stages of her loan, so her primary focus is to continue investing in the business and making her payments. Currently, she makes about 300 to 400 lempiras ($15-$20) a day in profit. She hopes to eventually make enough so that she can make improvements to her home.
