Fatmata Bangura (middle) is the leader of the group. She was born in Robuya Romemde, in northern Sierra Leone. She is 50 years old and married with four children. One of her children is in secondary school and the others are in primary school. For over ten years Fatmata has been selling 'gara lappers' – locally dyed clothes, sometimes with fabricated designs. With this loan, she will buy five 'pieces' of 'brillain' (a brillian is the white cotton that is dyed to produce a gara lapper, and thirty yards of brillian is called a piece).
