Suriaya baji is married to M. Ishaq and they have been living in a mid-size city named Raiwind, Pakistan, for the past 10 years. Suraiya baji is an uneducated lady but she knows the value of education. She is the mother of two sons. Both her sons are enrolled in a local school. Suraiya baji wants to give her sons good education, so that they can become independent and have a bright future. She sews clothes to pay off her kids’ school fees. Her husband trades in fruits. He sells his products in different communities by making a loud voice from his cart. Suraiya baji successfully repaid her first loan from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan). Now she is applying for a new loan to buy seasonal fruits to expand the husband’s business.

She is the group leader of four other women from her locality. Bushra baji and Nusrat baji each want a loan to buy buffalos for their milk selling business. Kosar baji wants a loan to repair her auto-rickshaw (a local three-wheeled motor vehicle). Haleema baji wants a loan to buy seasonal fruits for her fruit-selling business.

This is a group loan and the loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.
