Razia baji is a citizen of a mid-sized city named Raiwind, Pakistan. Raiwind is famous for its sweetmeats and for its shrines. Her husband’s name is M. Saeed and he has dealt in seasonal fruit for the past three years. He sells his products in different communities by making a loud voice from his cart. Razia baji helps him by arranging the fruit on his cart. She successfully repaid her previous two loans from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan). Now she is applying again for a loan to buy seasonal fruit to expand her husband’s fruit-selling business.

Razia baji is the group leader of four other women from her locality: Sardaran baji wants a loan to buy garments to sell; Sugran baji wants a loan to buy a buffalo for her milk-selling business; Kosar baji and Asia baji each want a loan to repair their auto-rickshaws (local three-wheeled motor vehicles).

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.

About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee. Under this arrangement, each member of the group supports one another and is responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults. Learn more
