The Soutoura group is composed of seven married women (three polygamous and four monogamous), who average 38 years of age and 4 children. They live in Sanoubougou I, one of the neighborhoods in the city of Sikasso, third administrative region of Mali. They are seeking their fifth loan from Kiva's partner, the microfinance organization Soro Yiriwaso, in order to better meet customer demand and increase their profits. All previous loans were repaid without problems.

They run various businesses, among others : selling pagnes (colorful African cloth), food condiments, fruits, and cereals. They intend to buy 30 pieces of pagnes, 20 baskets of condiments, 30 boxes of fruits, and 20 100-kg sacks of cereals. They get their supplies at the grand market in Sikasso and in the surrounding villages. They retail their goods for cash at the grand market in Sikasso, at home, and as traveling saleswomen, to a clientele comprising both women and men.

They foresee turning a monthly profit of XOF 19'000 (ca US$ 40) each, to be used in part to help their husbands. The remainder will be used to repay the loan and to invest into their businesses. The women of the Soutoura group ambition to become wholesalers.
