Kotognontala is a group of women of the Hamdallaye Koutiala district (region of Sikasso) who know one another well. They live in large traditional families with their husbands and children. They average 30 years of age, are married, and are mothers with at least four children.

The group members have a sole business, namely dyeing cloth and selling clothing. To expand their business, they decided to join the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso two years ago. The loan amounts have gone from 50,000 francs CFA for the first loan up to 75,000 francs for the third loan. All the preceding loans have been correctly repaid.

The current loan will be used to buy damask fabrics, dyes, caustic soda, and other ingredients. Supplies are gotten in Bamako (capital of Mali). The damask, cloth, and finished pagnes (that is, dyed lengths of cloth of different colors and motifs) are sold at the grand market of Koutiala and in surrounding marketplaces.

The group members plan on realizing a profit of 90,000 francs CFA each in the course of this cycle. In addition to making loan interest payments, they will use a portion of the revenues to address common family expenses.
