Mr. Ratana Chan, 45, and his wife, Mrs. Mom Un, 42, were married in 1989 and have five children: two daughters who are still young and three sons. Two of their sons have full-time employment, another one is in college. The family lives on an island in the Mekong River, about fifteen kilometers from Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia.
Ratana and his wife are farmers and they were hired by the villagers to spin thread to earn extra income to support their family. The walls of their house are made from coconut leaf. It is difficult for them to live when the rainy season comes, so Ratana is requesting a loan of US$400 to purchase zinc to make new walls for his house.
