Saima M. Nasir Group

My name is Saima, a 24-year-old married lady. For the past five years I have resided in a two-room brick house in Lahore, a Pakistani city famous for its historical sites and its Punjabi foods. I completed my education till 10th standard but couldn’t study further because my parents married me off to a resident of Lahore. His name is M. Nasir who, for the past two years, has operated a rented auto-rickshaw (a local three-wheeled motor vehicle), an arrangement requiring him to pay half his income to the owner.

I am a mother of two daughters, neither of whom attends school because my husband’s income is inadequate. But I now have started a beauty parlor because I want to give my daughters an education so that they can have secure futures and independent lives. I have repaid my first loan from Asasah (a microfinance institute of Pakistan) and am now applying for a loan to buy an auto-rickshaw for my husband so that he will get the whole income from his struggle.

I am the group leader of four other women from my locality. Bushra baji and Hamidan baji and Shamshad baji each want a loan to buy beams for their shuttering businesses. Nasreen Akhtar baji wants a loan to buy groceries for their grocery shop.

This is a group loan. The loan funds will be distributed among the group members, each of whom will invest in her own business. The members mutually guarantee one another's loans. If one member does not repay, the other members are responsible.




About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
