Diakalia Traoré

Mr. Diakalia Traoré, 38, is married and the father of four children. He lives with his wife and their children in a big traditional extended family in the Bougoula Ville district, in downtown Sikasso (third administrative region of the Republic of Mali).

Not having been able to attend school, Diakalia started up a carpentry business early on, together with his father who was a licenced master, well-known and much in demand in Sikasso. After some years of working together, Diakalia decided to set himself up alone. With his great experience, he receives lots of orders, but his finanacial means are not sufficient to satisfy all the ever-growing needs of his clientele. He decided to join the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso about two years ago. He is on his second individual loan after having reimbursed the first without difficulty.

With this loan he intends to stock up on construction wood with a truckload of 10 tons of rafters and boards and a half-load of plywood. He buys this wood in surrounding localities (Tinkrela, Denderso, Lobougoula, etc.) before sawing it and bringing it to Sikasso to make frames, furniture, benches, picnic tables, chests of drawers, chairs, etc. for sale.

With this loan he hopes to make a monthly profit of 250,000 F CFA which will be used to increase his working capital, contribute to family expenses, and pay the interest on his loan, investing any remainder in his business.

Monsieur Diakalia Traoré a 38 ans, marié et père de quatre enfants, il réside avec son épouse et leurs enfants dans une grande famille traditionnelle élargie au quartier de Bougoula Ville, le centre ville de Sikasso (troisième région administrative de la république du Mali).
Diakalia n’ayant pas eu à fréquenter l’école s’est très vite initié à une activité de menuiserie auprès de son père qui était un contremaître qualifié, très connu et très sollicité par la population Sikassoise. Après des années passées auprès de ce dernier, il décide de s’installer à son propre compte. Avec sa grande expérience, il reçoit beaucoup de commandes, mais ses moyens sont insuffisants pour satisfaire tous ses besoins qui ne cessent d’augmenter. Il décida alors de rejoindre l’institution de microfinance Soro Yiriwaso il y a environ deux ans. Il est à son deuxième prêt individuel après avoir remboursé sans difficulté le premier.
Avec ce deuxième prêt il compte constituer un important stocks en bois de construction avec un chargement de camion “10 tonnes” en chevrons et planches et un demi chargement de contreplaqués.
Il achète ces bois dans les localités environnantes (Tinkrela, Denderso, Lobougoula, etc.) avant de les scier et de les ramener à Sikasso pour en faire des charpentes, des meubles, bancs, tables-bancs, bureau, chaises etc afin de les revendre.
Il envisage réaliser avec ce prêt un bénéfice mensuel de 250 000 FCFA qui sera utilisé pour augmenter son fonds de commerce, contribuer aux dépenses familiales, payer les intérêts de son prêt et investir le reste dans son activité.
