Mr. Sambath Ban Village Bank Group

Thirteen people living in Chher Teal village in Kandal province comprise this village bank loan, and they will use the loan for various purposes. Mr. Sambath Ban is the 40 year old village bank president. He is a farmer who owns a plot of land where he cultivates rice to earn a living. In this plantation, he faces an obstacle because his field is infertile and this is badly affecting his crop. In order to solve this problem, he decided to ask for a loan to buy fertilizer and he will use the rest of the loan to purchase fuel to pump water to support the field and make his crop more productive. His wife, Mrs. Keo Phanith, is a housewife who is a good cooker and a good mother. Mr. Sambath Ban has seven children, one of whom is a construction worker, while another two are waiters in the restaurant, three others are enrolled in the local school, and the youngest one is too young to work or study.

Five members in this group loan are end-of-term loans and the rest have monthly payment loans. Those with end-of-term loans are not required to pay any principal on the loan until the very end of the loan term. End-of-term (EoT) loans are AMK’s main product because it is the most beneficial to Cambodia’s poor. It allows them to repay portions of the principal whenever they are financially able to. Most clients start to make payments many months before the end of the loan term. Almost all of AMK’s clients make their payments on time. AMK has a delinquency rate of only 0.09% and AMK has a default rate of 0% on Kiva.
