The village bank which consists of twenty nine members is located in Roteang village in Kandal province and the borrowers plan to use the loan for various purposes. Mrs. Seng Leng is the village bank president who has been selected by the members. She is a farmer who owns a small piece of land to grow vegetables. Her husband, Mr. Nhoem Poun, is a fisherman. Since his fishing business is doing well, he wants to expand it; thus, Mrs. Seng Leng decided to ask for a loan to buy more fishnets for her husband's fishing operation. She hopes to increase her family's income and improve its standard of living. She is a 48-year-old mother of seven children: two are employed in a garment factory, four are attending the local school, and the remaining one is too young to work or study.
