Samuel supports his children through the sale of used belts and socks. The selling of used belts and socks has a very big market share in Ghana as brand new socks, belts and even clothes are very expensive for the economically active poor. Therefore the selling of used products like socks and belts has created a business for many men. He has been in this business for the past ten years. Samuel travels to a nearby city called Accra to purchase his stock of goods.
Samuel wants to use the loan to buy more bales of used socks and belts to increase his inventory. He believes this loan would help him to save for his children’s future and also enable him to rent a store to trade in. He mostly sells through hawking, that is: house-to-house selling.
