Thérèse Orekan was born around 1974 in Sakété in Plateau County in the south of Bénin. Thérèse is married to Bénît Ogoutchibo and is the mother of 3 children, of whom two are still her responsibility. The eldest, Aïhatou, lives with Thérèse's little sister.

Thérèse sells cooked food every evening along the road in the PK10 neighborhood in Cotonou, economic capital of Bénin. She sells rice, beans, maize porridge, manioc porridge, and cocoyam stew. Thérèse 's clientele has grown recently and she does not have the means to respond to the demand of her clientele. This is why she is requesting the help of ALIDé to better cater for the needs of her customers.

The significance of ALIDé in the local langauge of Bénin, Fon, is "a pathway always exists for the poorest of the poor". Bénin is a small country in West Africa, next door to Nigeria, where the GDP per inhabitant stands at US$ 1,500.
