Rachael Owusu, 41, has been selling yams for the past five years to support her family. She is married and the mother of six children. Yam is one of the favorite staple foods that supply carbohydrate components in the diet. Rachael takes delivery of produce from farmers who provide her with a direct supply. This enables her to avoid middlemen who buy from the farmers and resell at higher prices. She loves selling goods, the business from which she obtains a daily source of livelihood.
With this loan, she wants to buy yams in bulk to serve her customers. She hopes to use part of her profit to support her children in school. Four of her children are currently in junior and senior high. Rachael belongs to a village bank called Yesu Abusua which literally means "God’s Family".
