Emilia

Emilia is a woman who is much admired by her neighbors due to the great efforts she has made to make ends meet. She is 30 years old and lives in a rented room and she wants to improve her life. She works making handmade fabrics, which she learned as a young child, helping her mother complete her fabric orders. She is currently one of the principal suppliers of fabrics for the Sunday craft market in the city of Juliaca. What she likes most about her job is weaving, especially artisan fabrics. She has spent 8 years doing this work and longs to have her own shop where she could sell her own garments. What she likes least about her job is transporting her materials to where she distributes them; it is very tiring, even though she knows that she must do so to get ahead.

This is Emilia's fifth loan with Kiva partner MFP, and she hopes to make all her payments on time so she does not get in trouble with the members of her village bank, where she is a very active member. With the money she has requested, Emilia plans to purchase more wool in a variety of colours and of a better quality than usual, in order to produce a greater supply of fabrics.

Emilia es una mujer muy admirada por sus vecinas, debido al gran esfuerzo que hace para salir adelante, tiene 30 años y vive en un cuarto alquilado y lo que más desea es mejorar su vida. Se dedica al negocio de los tejidos artesanales, aprendió esta actividad desde muy pequeña cuando ayudaba a su madre a terminar los tejidos que le solicitaban, actualmente es una de las principales proveedoras de las tiendas artesanales de la feria dominical de la ciudad de Juliaca. Lo que más le gusta de su trabajo es tejer y más a un si son artesanías, lleva 8 años realizando esta actividad y anhela tener su propia tienda de tejidos artesanales donde pueda vender sus propias prendas, lo que menos le gusta de su trabajo es transportar sus tejidos hasta donde los distribuye, ya que se le hace muy cansado, aun así sabe que tiene que hacerlo para poder salir adelante. Este es el quinto préstamo de Emilia con MFP, y espera pagar todas sus cuotas a tiempo para no meter en problemas a las socias de su banco comunal, donde es una socia muy activa. Con el dinero solicitado planea comprar más lana de todos colores y de mejor calidad, para producir más tejidos artesanales.
