Lucinda

Lucinda is 39 years old, has been married for 15 years, and has 3 children. Linda is a very active and hard-working woman; her parents brought her up doing farm work, but since she’s been married her husband has worked on the farm while she makes a living attending to her grocery store, which she has had for about 15 years. She also provides lunches for some of the teachers at the local primary school and high school. Lucinda rises at 4:00 AM so that her breakfasts will be ready at 7:00 AM, after which she feeds the pigs she is raising—all the while attending to her grocery store—and at 11:00 AM she has everything ready for her customers. Her business of selling pigs is very profitable, since she feeds the pigs with what’s left of the potato crop, and when they reach the necessary weight she slaughters them and sells the meat at markets. However, the store is her main focus, and it gives her much satisfaction because she gets daily profits and is able to chat pleasantly with each of her customers. Lucinda’s husband is one of the founders of their communal bank, and she joined as a member due to her husband’s absence. This is Lucinda’s 7th loan with Kiva partner MFP, and all this time both she and her husband have been punctual in making their payments. Lucinda plans to use the money she is requesting to purchase merchandise for her grocery store and, at the same time, ingredients for preparing meals for her lodgers.

Lucinda tiene 39 años, es casada hace 15 años y tiene 3 hijos. De una personalidad activa y muy trabajadora, sus padres la criaron bajo las labores agrícolas; pero desde que se casó, su esposo labora en la chacra y ella está dedicada a atender su bodega que ya tiene cerca de 15 años. Asimismo, brinda almuerzos para algunos profesores de la escuela primaria y del colegio de su localidad. Lucinda se levanta a las 4.00am para que a las 7.00am los desayunos ya estén listos, después alimenta a los cerdos que cría; pero sin dejar de atender su bodega, y a las 11.00am tiene todo listo para sus recibir a sus comensales. Su negocio de venta de cerdos le es muy rentable, ya que los alimenta con el resto de la cosecha de papa y cuando obtienen el peso necesario, los sacrifica y vende su carne a los mercados. Por otro lado, la atención de su bodega, también le da satisfacciones porque obtienen ganancias diarias y puede conversar amenamente con cada uno de sus clientes. El esposo de Lucinda es uno de los fundadores de su banco comunal, y ella ingresó como socia titular debido a la ausencia de su esposo. Este es su 7mo crédito con MFP, y en todo este tiempo, ambos demostraron puntualidad en los pagos.
