Chay Liev is a mother of four children living with her husband in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. She runs a tailoring business and typically makes about $3/day in revenue. Her husband is a photographer and a motor-taxi driver. He usually earns around $12/day, which he contributes to the household. One of Chay’s daughters currently works at the nearby local garment factory. Their wages assist in meeting the family's financial needs, especially the needs of the two youngest children. Chay hopes the loan will allow her to purchase a sewing machine and a motorcycle for her husband to operate a motor-taxi. In the future, the couple hopes to save enough money to own a photography shop and supplement their children's education.

Journal Updated for Chay Liev

Entrepreneur: Chay Liev
Location: Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Chay Liev is currently more than halfway finished paying back her loan, and has not had any problems with her repayments thus far. She is a tailor who works in Phnom Penh and has four children, one of whom is old enough to be in school. With the loan, Liev was able to purchase a sewing machine for her own business. With the rest of the loan and the increased revenue the new sewing machine has generated (approximately $.70 more each day) she has been able to purchase a camera for her husband, who is a professional photographer. She has also applied the extra profits towards paying for her eldest child’s education, which costs $1.25 per day. In the future, the family expects to apply for another loan to purchase a better quality professional camera.
