Teopista Nalwadda ‘s Group

Teopista Nalwadda is 45 years olod and a single mother of 2 children, aged 13 and 18 years old. Both children are in school. She owns a two room house where she lives with her family. She does not take care of additional family members. She has access to electricity but no piped water at home. The family eats three meals a day.

Teopista earns her living by selling matooke (bananas) in Kawempe market, a city suburb. She buys bananas from villages and supplies them to other market vendors. She sells at her stall and receives about 15 customers a day and sells to a variety of people. Teopista incurs extra cost for transport to and from the villages. She works seven days a week and has been in this business for 30 years. She also owns rooms and has tenants. Teopista is faced with a challenge of high transport costs and the rainy season, which makes roads impassable.

This is her 14th loan since joining MCDT and has been with MCDT for 7 years, working with the same group for a loan. Teopista wants to use this loan to buy more bananas and is aspiring to build a permanent place for her business.










About Group Loans
In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a group of individuals bound by a group guarantee.
