The six women of the Djemanguelen group have an average age of 49 with 4 children and live in the Bamanankin district of the village of Togo (fourth administrative region of Mali) in polygamous households. They met each other because of ties of marriage and neighborhood and they transform néré seeds into "sounbala" (a condiment) and sell firewood.

They are on their seventh solidarity loan, after having correctly reimbursed the first six. They intend to use this loan to buy 800 kg of néré seeds. They buy their supplies weekly in the big open-air market of Ségou. These seeds are transformed into "sounbala", a condiment much esteemed and used in African sauces. Sounbala is made out of néré seeds are hulled, washed and cooked for a long time, then pounded and washed several times to get rid of their peels and any foreign matter. Then they are cooked again and hermetically sealed in a rust-free container for two days, then stirred, shaped into balls, steamed and dried. The resulting sounbala is ready for consumption and sale. They sell for cash and credit to a clientele composed mainly of women, out of their homes, walking around the village, and in the big open-air market of the town of Ségou.

They hope to make a monthly average profit of 17,000 F CFA which will be used to reimburse the loan and participate in community events (marriages, baptisms, and funerals).

Their ambition is to be able to build a house to live in with a corrugated iron roof.

PREMIER ET DERNIER FEED BACK
