“Association Femme Développement Entreprise AFDE Numéro 18” is composed of five women who average 40 years of age and who live in large traditional extended families in the Cité Lamy district in Thiès, a city located 70 km from Dakar, the capital of Senegal. These women know one another through ties of community and kinship. They do almost the same work, selling fish. They are very experienced and in high demand in this field.

With regard to improving the quality of their services and expanding their businesses, the members of this reliance group decided to join the micro-finance institution IMCEC. They received a group loan before from IMCEC, and they indeed repaid it.

The group members plan to use this loan to replenish their stock of fish, which they’re going to sell retail, cash accepted, at the Grand Thiès marketplace. Fish is an essential part of Senegalese cuisine, so there is always a lot of demand.

The group members hope to realize an average profit of 30,000 francs CFA in the course of this cycle. The profits will be used to make loan interest payments, to provide for family needs, and to invest the rest in business.

Entrepreneur: Afde 18 Group
Location: Thies, Senegal

Hi Kiva lenders!

You are receiving this journal update to thank you for the Kiva loan you made to a client of IMCEC, a partner MFI in Senegal, West Africa.

IMCEC (also known as "UIMCEC") is working on putting in place an efficient, well-oiled system for sending journal updates. However, for the moment, they're a bit behind schedule! Please accept the video below in lieu of your regularly scheduled journal update. I hope that, through this video, you will feel a stronger connection to IMCEC and its clients. As you will see, there is lots of energy and life that goes into running an MFI, and IMCEC and its borrowers are grateful for the support of Kiva and lenders like you.

Enjoy the video, and thank you for your continued support of Kiva and IMCEC!

Best regards,

Abby Gray
