Ali is a 27-year-old man who lives in Tyre, Southern Lebanon. Ali has owned a coffee shop since 1999. He also serves narguileh (also known as shisha in Egypt). Narguileh is an ancient tradition enjoyed by the people of the Middle East. A tall (or short) water pipe is used to smoke fruit-flavored tobacco. Narguileh is enjoyed in cafes across the Middle East and is beginning to gain popularity in the U.S., Europe and other countries. Ali requested a loan of $1500 US from Al Majmoua in order to purchase merchandise for his coffee shop. This is the first time that Ali has requested a loan.
Ali is special in his work because people feel comfortable coming to his place. His clients are his friends, neighbors and others. When he first started, he didn’t have enough cash to purchase all the necessary tools and machines for his shop. He decided on doing this business because of his experience. In the future, he plans on enlarging his shop.
