Hannah Richardson

Hannah Richardson is 30 years old. She is a wife and the mother of three children. Two of her children are currently in school while the youngest is still breastfeeding. She lives with her husband and children in a family house in the central region of Ghana.

Hannah is a food vendor and sells kenkey as well as maize. Kenkey is prepared from milled maize grains, cooked and taken with hot pepper and fried fish. She has many customers since many Ghanaian people enjoy kenkey as breakfast, lunch and supper. She wants to use the loan to buy more supplies such as bags of maize, meat, fish, vegetables and firewood. She hopes to increase her savings to support her children’s education.

Cape Coast region is one of the difficult regions in Ghana. The government is trying to alleviate the poverty rate there so that the economically active poor can also provide for their families. Hannah belongs to a village bank called ‘Independence’.
