All seven women of the Benkadi group are married, with an average age of 35 and 4 children. They live in monogamous families in Noumousso, one of the districts of the town of Kadiolo, prefecture of Sikasso, 3rd administrative region of Mali.

They have various businesses, among others, selling condiments, oil, palm fans, ginger, dried beans, and clothing. They work with the micro-finance institution Soro Yiriwaso so as to satisfy the demand of their clientele and are on their 8th solidarity loan. All the preceding loans have been correctly reimbursed.

With this new loan, they expect to buy 1 bale of used clothing, some 20 meters of cloth, 6 jerrycans of 20 liters of oil, 6 packets of condiments, 100 palm fans, 3 sacks of 100-kg of dried beans, 100 kg of ginger, 50 kg of sugar, and other ingredients used in making fruit juice. They get their supplies at the big open-air market of the town of Sikasso, in the town of Kadiolo, and neighboring localities.

The merchandise is sold, mostly for cash, in the market of the town of Kadiolo, from doorways near the main road that crosses through the town, and often in front of schools, to a clientele composed of men, women, and children.

They each expect to make a monthly average profit of 17,500 F CFA of which part will be used for daily needs and for savings, with the remainder reinvested in their businesses.

The ambition of certain women of the Benkadi group is to buy a plot of land to build a house on; others hope to be able to buy a freezer.

PREMIER ET DERNIER FEED BACK
