The five women in the Djiguisèmè group from the Djiguitougou association are all married. They have an average age of 38 and an average of five children each. They live in large traditional extended families in the Dar-salam1 neighborhood of Koutiala (Sikasso region, Republic of Mali).

They got to know each other through neighborhood connections at work.

They all sell clothing and have a secondary business selling all kinds of vegetables: yams, potatoes etc. They are very much in demand in this business.

In order to satisfy the needs of their ever-increasing clientele, the Djiguisèmè group decided to join the Soro Yiriwaso micro-finance institution with whom they are requesting their third group loan. All their previous loans have been satisfactorily repaid.

They intend to use this loan to buy bales of wax cloth and embroidered fabric wholesale in Bamako (the capital of the Republic of Mali). As for the vegetables, they are bought and sold at the market and door-to-door as and when, because it is impossible to stock up long term. The pagnes (decorated cotton fabric used to make traditional tunics) are sold retail at the Koutiala market for cash or credit.

During this loan cycle, each member of the group expects to make a profit of 120,000 FCFA, which will be used to repay the loan interest, provide for the needs of the extended family and the remainder will be invested in the business.

PREMIER ET DERNIER FEED BACK

Entrepreneur: Djiguisèmè (l’espoir) Group
Location: Koutiala, Mali
