Matt began developing Kiva in late 2004 as a side-project while working as a computer programmer at TiVo, Inc. In December 2005 Matt left his job to devote himself to Kiva full-time. As CEO, Matt led Kiva's growth from a pilot project to an established online service with partnerships across the globe and hundreds of millions in dollars loaned to low income entrepreneurs. Matt was a Skoll Awardee and Ashoka Fellow and was selected to FORTUNE magazine's "Top 40 under 40" list in 2009. In 2011, Matt was chosen for the The Economist “No Boundaries” Innovation Award. He graduated with a BS in Symbolic Systems and a Masters in Philosophy from Stanford University.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Virginia and a law degree from Harvard, John joined the distinguished international law firm of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, and he also practiced law at Shawmut National Corporation, a multi-state bank holding company. From 1996 to 2000, he was a partner at Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison, where he specialized in e-finance and regulatory compliance.
John joined PayPal in October 2000 as general counsel, and he added the role of vice president of legal in 2002. At PayPal, he leads a legal department that is working with governments and business partners around the world to reinvent commercial and payment law in order to bring the benefits of connected commerce to businesses and consumers on a global basis.
John has also served as the co-chair of the American Bar Association Joint Subcommittee on Electronic Financial Services and as the chair of the California Bar Association Financial Institutions Committee.
Helene Gayle | President & CEO, CARE
At CDC, she studied problems of malnutrition in children in the United States and abroad, evaluating and implementing child survival programs in Africa and working on HIV/AIDS research, programs and policy. Dr. Gayle also served as the AIDS coordinator and chief of the HIV/AIDS division for the U.S. Agency for International Development; director for the National Center for HIV, STD, and TB Prevention, CDC; director of CDC's Washington office; and health consultant to international agencies including the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the World Bank and UNAIDS. Prior to her current position, she was the director of the HIV, TB and reproductive health program for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Doug Michelman | Global Head of Corporate Relations, Visa
Michelman joined Visa U.S.A. as executive vice president of corporate relations in January 2003. As steward of the corporation's reputation, Michelman served as the chief communications strategist for Visa U.S.A. Prior to joining Visa, Michelman served as regional president and senior partner at Fleishman-Hillard. In this position, he managed Fleishman-Hillard's West Coast operations and oversaw the company's collective technology communications resources as CEO of Fleishman-Hillard Technology Consulting Worldwide (TCW).
During the course of his career, Michelman has developed corporate and investor relations communications programs, counseled clients on crisis communications and directed corporate image campaigns. In addition to various roles within Fleishman-Hillard both in the U.S. and internationally, Michelman’s extensive communications experience also includes staff positions in the press office for two presidential campaigns and work as an associate producer for local and national television news programs.
Michelman earned a B.A. in political science from Duke University in North Carolina.
