Overview  |  The Kiva Model  |  Become a Field Partner

MFIs seeking partnership with Kiva are subject to Kiva's due diligence and approval process.

  1. Getting started

    • Review the Field Partner Overview
    • Make sure you understand the Kiva Model
    • Ensure you are able to fulfill Kiva's operational requirements and fit the minimum partnership criteria.
    • If your organization does not fit the criteria or operational requirements, please check back with us again in the future when you do.
    • If your organization fits the operational requirements and minimum partnership criteria, proceed to step 2.

  2. Submit your MFI Profile to Kiva's partnerships team

    • Please fill in all requested information with your most recent organizational data.
    • Once you submit your profile, you will receive an automatic email confirming receipt.

  3. Kiva review of MFI Profile, determination of next steps

    • Please allow up to 6 weeks between the date when your profile is submitted and the date you are contacted directly by Kiva.
    • If your organization is not a good fit, we will contact you with information on how to proceed.
    • If your organization is determined to be a good fit for Kiva's criteria and priorities, we will provide you with a Kiva application.
    • Please note, fitting the minimum partnership criteria does not guarantee your organization will receive an application for partnership.

  4. Complete partnership application, assemble required documentation and email/send to Kiva

    • Documentation required or preferred by Kiva: Audited financial statements, agency ratings/evaluations, funder evaluations, CVs, bios or resumes of key personnel, financial/portfolio reports, MIX data collection tool and strategic/business plan.

  5. Kiva due diligence and approval process

    • Please allow up to 8 weeks for Kiva to conduct the due diligence and approval process.
    • To speed up the partnership review process, please make sure you have included all necessary documentation prior to sending the application to Kiva for review.

  6. Final decision

    • If your organization is not approved for Field Partnership, Kiva will contact you with an explanation and recommended steps to approval.
    • If your MFI is approved as a Field Partner, Kiva will work with you to finalize all partnership documentation and schedule a training session.
    • Additionally, Kiva will outline your MFI's risk rating (1-5 stars) and monthly fundraising limits.
    • You can expect up to 6 weeks to finalize documentation and participate in a training session.

  7. Pilot program begins

    • Please plan to spend up to 4 months in the Pilot phase.
    • If approved for partnership, your MFI will participate in a Pilot Program to become familiarized with the Kiva model, tools and resources.
    • Your MFI will be able to fundraise via the Kiva platform, at a reduced amount.
    • Kiva will provide ongoing assistance and guidance during the Pilot Program.

  8. Welcome to Kiva!

    • After a successful Pilot phase, your organization may begin fundraising up to your monthly limit via the Kiva platform!
    • Your Kiva Partnerships Manager will provide ongoing guidance and assistance during your relationship with Kiva.
