Kiva Fellows Program
Kiva Fellows travel to and live in the host country of one of our partner microfinance institutions (MFI) for a minimum of 10 weeks. By journaling on the behalf of our MFI partner, Kiva Fellows are able to to convey the impact on the entrepreneur of a Kiva loan. Do you have strong skills in another language? Are you passionate about microfinance and international development? Kiva’s volunteer translation team is growing quickly, and we are continually adding new language capabilities. Kiva Field Partners upload many loan descriptions in their local language, and Kiva Translators translate these short texts into English.Who we're looking for:
- Volunteers with high-level proficiency in a foreign language and excellent writing skills in English
- Some translation experience preferred, but not required. (Experienced translators may be given special assignments.)
- Special interest in non-US residents to expand our volunteer operations worldwide
Requirements:
- Able to commit to at least one assignment per week (minimum of 2 hours/week)
- Check email frequently
- Comfortable using technology - loan descriptions will be translated using Kiva’s web interface
About the position:
- Unpaid volunteer position
- Minimum 3-month commitment, prefer 6 months
- Flexible: volunteers may select the days that are most convenient for them and can choose to decline any assignment
Language needs:
- Current languages needed: Bahasa Indonesia, French, Khmer, Mongolian, Nepali, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swahili, Vietnamese
- We are also accepting registrations for: Arabic, Armenian, Dari, and Pashto
- If you have skills in a language that is not listed here, send an email to translators@kiva.org. We’ll contact you if a need arises in that language.
