Job Description
Kiva seeks to hire a Portfolio Officer for Anglophone Africa to assist with ongoing expansion and partner monitoring. As an experienced and highly driven professional, you will play a key role in monitoring Kiva's growing portfolio in Anglophone Africa as well as assisting in due diligence on new partner microfinance institutions. As part of a small but dynamic regional team, you will have the opportunity to significantly affect one of the region's newest and fastest growing microfinance funders. You will work closely with key members of Kiva's Anglophone Africa team based in San Francisco, USAand Nairobi, Kenya. This paid position is based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Tasks / Responsibilities:

Due Diligence
  • Assist with desk review and onsite due diligence of new potential microfinance institution partners in Anglophone Africa
  • Conduct financial analysis of potential Kiva partners including spreading financials, reviewing key ratios, and identifying problems and red flags
  • Onsite due diligence with potential partners to understand the financials, review financial and accounting systems, and assess financial management
Risk Management
  • Ensure Kiva's portfolio quality through effective monitoring including review of quarterly financials and portfolio reports
  • Strengthen partner capacity by highlighting microfinance best practices

Mandatory Skills / Qualifications / Experience

  • 3+ years of professional experience in the microfinance, banking, or audit sector
  • BS/BA degree in business, finance, economics or related field
  • English language fluency required; Swahili language and French language fluencies are a plus
  • High degree of comfort with Microsoft Office (Excel and Word, in particular)
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to deliver results on multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Strong individual initiative and ability to work collaboratively
  • Disciplined, detail oriented, and accountable
  • Ability to interact effectively with people of other cultures, capacities, and organizations
  • Strong interpersonal and speaking skills
  • Ability to travel regionally up to 40% of your time, including rural locations

Highly Desirable Qualities

  • Knowledge of microfinance best practices and familiarity with microfinance methodologies is a strong plus
  • Internal Audit experience
  • CPA designation
