Job Description
As an experienced and highly driven microfinance professional, you will play a key role in shaping the expansion of Kiva's MFI network in the region. You will be responsible for ensuring the healthy growth of Kiva's portfolio, by driving and coordinating Kiva's partnership selection, development and monitoring efforts. You will play a key role in improving the way in which Kiva partners with MFIs.
Tasks / Responsibilities:
New Partner Selection
- Help set the strategy for growth in the region
- Grow Kiva's portfolio of quality MFI partners by working with Kiva's local representative to identify, and market potential partners
- Participate in developing partnership agreements and managing the launch of partnerships
- Undertake due diligence and complete financial analysis on potential partners
- Present potential partners to the Investment Committee and recommend risk rating
Relationship Management
- Maintain an in-depth understanding of partners' business plans, financial projections and support requirements
- Define work plan and manage field staff based on portfolio priorities
- Supervise and support field-based Kiva Fellows and Partner Development Specialists working with partner MFIs
- Train Partner Development Specialists on Kiva processes and update them on new policies
- Represent Kiva in professional settings such as regional conferences, association and industry briefings
Monitoring and Risk Management
- Ensure portfolio quality through effective monitoring, evaluation and follow up
- Ensure due diligence through regular communications and partner site visits
- Strengthen partner capacity by providing training & support on Kiva's lending and reporting systems and policies
- Contribute to improve Kiva systems for partner management and due diligence
Special Projects (examples)
- Increase efficiency for partners to receive Kiva funding (i.e., develop implementation modules, analyze costs, etc.)
- Improve data quality and transparency (i.e., straight-through processing, etc.)
Mandatory Skills / Qualifications / Experience
- 3+ years of professional experience in an MFI, bank or management consulting firm
- BS/BA degree in business, finance or economics, MS/MBA desirable
- Knowledge of microfinance best practices and familiarity with microfinance methodologies
- Experience with due diligence and portfolio management analytical tools and methodologies
- Strong management skills and ability to deliver results on multiple priorities simultaneously
- Strong leadership skills, ability to work collaboratively and present to large groups publicly
- Experience with managing small teams and with developing staff and partners
- Local languages a plus
- Ability to interact effectively with people of other cultures, capacities, and organizations
- Strong interpersonal and speaking skills
- Ability to travel regionally and internationally up to 50% of your time, including rural locations
- Strong understanding of internet based services and Microsoft Office (e.g. Excel and PowerPoint)
