Job Description: Kivas IT internship program provides junior-level IT candidates the opportunity to advance their skills while helping achieve Kivas mission.

This internship will be technically challenging.

We will advance your skills during your time here. You will learn IT best practices and improve your abilities to script, monitor, automate, and scale network services.

Upon acceptance, an informal curriculum will be co-developed with the IT intern candidate and the IT support manager. Curriculum for candidates that can commit to a 12-month internship will seek to satisfy the Required Skill set of a Sage Level IV system administration for a Complex Site.

You will also have drudge work. Lots of it. You will learn to take a serious workload, organize it, automate what you can, reduce it stepwise, and make it tolerable if not fun.

This is a full-time unpaid position for 3-12 months. 12 month internships are preferred.

Candidates will be expected to perform:

  • Troubleshooting client, server, and networking issues.
  • Documenting solutions.
  • Testing and monitoring of internal services.
  • Development and rollout of new services.
  • Train end users and other sysadmins.

Candidates are expected to have the following skills:

  • Some experience configuring wired and wireless networks.
  • Some server-side knowledge in any operating system.
  • Significant client side debugging experience.
  • Very comfortable with at least one operating systems command line.
  • Loves computers and helping good people solve their problems with them.

It is essential that we find someone who loves to solve problems with computers and loves helping other people do the same.

This is a new initiative in Kiva IT. We will be developing our training program while we train the first successful candidate, and we hope to find someone who will pass on their knowledge to new sysadmins.
