The Company...
Founded in 2005, Kiva is on a roll! Featured in Forbes, Inc., Time, CNN, Fox (to name just a few) & most recently on TV's Good Morning America, Kiva's mission is to alleviate world poverty. We're the world's first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend directly to unique entrepreneurs around the globe. To make this happen, Kiva partners with existing expert microfinance institutions.

Kiva provides a data-rich, transparent lending platform. We are constantly working to make the system more transparent to show how money flows throughout the entire cycle, & what effect it has on the people & institutions that lend, borrow, & manage it along the way. Our technology enables one-to-one interpersonal connections & lending at the lowest possible cost.

Job Description:Kiva is looking for a graphic designer with a background in text layout to help us prepare a training guide for our new Team Leader Program. The ideal candidate will have experience with making instructional text look user-friendly. This person will be working closely with Kiva's Microloan Review and Translation Team coordinators to complete this single project, a great portfolio piece and/or resume builder. This is a project-based, unpaid position.

Team Leader Program: Prior to being posted on kiva.org, all Kiva loans are reviewed by volunteer editors and translators. These (currently hundreds) of volunteer reviewers have until now been managed by Kiva's in-house Review and Translation Team coordinators. This fall, we'll be starting our Team Leader Program, in which volunteer Team Leaders will take over the coordination of teams of up to 30 volunteers each. We'll need a universal training guide for these Team Leaders in order to create uniformity across the Kiva network and maximize efficiency.

Project:

Design/layout of a training guide for volunteer Team Leaders. Designing a successful training guide will require experience in print layout and the ability to convey a lot of information as simply and effectively as possible. The training guide will be divided into more-or-less stand-alone sections and could be presented as a series of linked brochures, including:
  • Getting to Know Kiva: graphic presentation of how Kiva is organized (flowcharts, etc.)
  • Managing Your Team: strategies for managing volunteers (calendars, lists)
  • What to Expect From Your Volunteer Coordinator
  • How to Use Viva's Team Leader Features: technical instruction for using Kiva's loan review system (including screenshots of user interface)

Ideal Candidate:

  • Strong skills with text layout in a variety of programs
  • Track record of meeting deadlines on independent projects
  • Superior organizational skills and attention to detail
  • User-friendly design sensibility
