Job Description: In February 2009, Kiva opened its doors to creative software and product developers by introducing the Kiva API. Since then people from around the world have been writing new applications and tools to help make lending more exciting and easier than ever, and Kiva lenders have begun interacting with entrepreneurs and Kiva in entirely new ways through these tools. Such an opportunity is unprecedented in the social non-profit space and as such we face unique challenges every day in serving the needs of the developers and the lenders who use their apps. We're looking for you to help us make a difference by nurturing and growing our community of developers, and helping them reach and serve Kiva lenders through their applications. Come learn with us as explore uncharted territory in crowd-sourcing solutions to poverty!

Responsibilities can range from technical to social based on the successful candidates' profile but generally include evangelizing and supporting developers through the newsgroup, Twitter, blogs, and other social mediums; initiating or collaborating new API-based projects (including those with Kiva's strategic partners); expanding content and features to kiva.org and build.kiva.org to support lenders and developers; and organizing the community around events and meet-ups worldwide. At the end of the internship you should leave Kiva lenders with deeper engagement through quality 3rd party or partner apps, and Kiva developers with more tools, a stronger community, and a clearer sense of the impact of their efforts. A successful internship will also leave you with valuable experience in community management, product development, evangelism, and crowd-sourcing API-based products. Through deep day-to-day engagement with Kiva, you'll also gain a unique perspective on microfinance and the opportunity to interact with experts both in and out of the office. Most of all, you'll have a ton of fun hanging out with the entire Kiva gang in our humble Mission digs.

Successful candidates will have strong social skills and a successful history of building open communities online. In addition, the candidate will likely have some product development or design background, demonstrated success with of social marketing tools and community forums, and/or proven skill developing open-source software on open APIs. Though not necessary, a Bachelors degree or equivalent is preferred.
